Threads limitations
Rules from Threads (Meta) that apply to every app, not just Sociomile.
Accounts & permissions
- Only accounts connected through the Threads permission screen can be managed. Accounts must be public; no data is available from private accounts.
- Permissions for public accounts last 90 days and are extended automatically when the token is renewed. If the permissions are revoked in the Threads settings, the account needs to be reconnected.
- Threads doesn't provide full profiles of other users: only the username, profile picture, and verified badge from their messages are available.
- Replying to mentions in other people's posts requires the
threads_manage_mentions permission, which is requested when you connect the account.
Replies
- Text up to 500 characters. Emoji count as their byte length (e.g. 😀 = 4), so the character counter in the composer can go up by more than one for a single emoji.
- Images: JPEG/PNG, up to 8 MB (Threads limit: 8 MB).
- Videos: MP4/MOV, up to 100 MB in Sociomile (Threads limit: 5 minutes, 1 GB).
- Carousels of 2–20 items (Sociomile allows 10 files per reply).
- Meta must be able to download attachments from a public URL, so reply files are stored on the server under random names.
- Up to 1,000 replies per 24 hours per Threads account.
- Replies always go to the latest incoming message in the conversation. Sociomile doesn't create new posts.
Webhooks & sync
- Real-time notifications (webhooks) for accounts that aren't app testers only become active after the Meta app passes App Review and the business is verified. Until then, comments and mentions are fetched by a sync every 5 minutes.
- Sync fetches comments from the last 10 posts of each account; comments on older posts still arrive through webhooks.
- Mentions are sometimes delayed by a few minutes on Threads' side.
